    Situation Overview and Key Updates

    • As of January 9, the Palisades Fire has now burned over 17,000 acres and counting as containment remains at 0%. Additionally, the Eaton Fire has burned over 10,000 acres with containment at 0%. The primary focus remains on evacuating everyone in the path of the fire and fighting the spread of the fire.
      • The National Weather Service (NWS) extended the Red Flag Warning through Friday evening.
    • On January 7, Governor Newsom proclaimed a state of emergency due to the Palisades Fire and a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) was secured to ensure the availability of essential resources to suppress the wildfire.
      • On January 8, President Biden approved California’s major disaster declaration which allows Federal funding to be available to affected individuals in Los Angeles as well as Federal aid to supplement recovery efforts.
    • There are several mandatory evacuation orders and warnings for the Palisades Fire, Eaton Fire, and Hurst Fire.
    • Evacuation shelters are established at:
      • Westwood Recreation Center, Los Angeles
      • El Camino Real Charter High School, Woodland Hills
      • Pasadena Convention Center, Pasadena
      • Pomona Fairplex, Pomona
      • 375 Campus Drive, Arcadia
    • Road closures due to the wildfires in California can be found here.
    • Healthcare Ready has activated Rx Open and will be updating the map daily during the duration of this event.
      • 38 pharmacies are closed in the affected areas.
      • "Not participating" is specific to pharmacies not sharing data.
      • "Unknown" means operational status is uncertain.

    Impacts on Healthcare

    • According to PowerOutage.us, there are over 418,000 customers without power as of January 9.
    • As of January 9, there is a water advisory for evacuated areas due to the Eaton Fire. The Pasadena Water and Power water system is potentially impacted with debris and people in the evacuated areas should not use the tap water.
    • As of January 9, specialty care centers operated by Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (Arcadia, Encino, and Santa Monica) are closed due to the impacts from wind gusts, power outages, and wildfires. The emergency department is open for service in Los Angeles.
    • As of January 9, there are several UCLA Health clinics impacted due to the wildfires in the following areas:
      • Alhambra
      • Calabasas
      • Malibu
      • Pacific Palisades
      • Pasadena
      • Santa Monica
      • Simi Valley
      • Thousand Oaks
    • On January 8, Centene Corp, through Health Net, announced special assistance for members impacted by the Palisades Fire. They are ensuring access to essential healthcare services, including prescription medications and telehealth services.
    • Several nursing homes and assisted living facilities in the Los Angeles area have evacuated due to the wildfires.
    • On January 7, a smoke advisory was released by Los Angeles County Public Health due to the Palisades Fire stating that the burning has caused unhealthy air quality in areas in and near Los Angeles.
      • At-risk populations include children, the elderly, people with respiratory conditions, and people with compromised immune systems.
