    EPAP Activation in North Carolina

    • On October 4, the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) has activated the Emergency Prescription Assistance Program (EPAP) for certain North Carolina counties, following the Public Health Emergency (PHE) declared in North Carolina, to aid residents who have lost access to necessary medications and supplies due to Hurricane Helene.
      • EPAP was activated for the following North Carolina counties: Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Catawaba, Clay, Cleveland, Gaston, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Lincoln, Rutherford, Transylvania, Watauga, Wilkes, Yancey.
    • EPAP assists people in federally identified disaster areas, who do not have health insurance, to get prescription drugs, vaccines, durable medical equipment, and other medical supplies that are necessary for the continuity of care.
      • Eligible people can receive a 30-day supply of their medications - free of charge. Pharmacies are required to dispense the generic form of medication unless indicated as Brand Medically Necessary. Prescription refills are permitted every 30 days, free of charge, as long as EPAP is still activated.
      • There are 72,000 participating retail pharmacies across the US that eligible individuals can visit to obtain their medications, vaccines, and other medical supplies.
      • There are 1,967 EPAP enrolled pharmacies in North Carolina. Eligible people can find their pharmacy or a pharmacy near them through the EPAP Enrolled Pharmacies locator.
    • Eligible people can figure out whether their prescription or medical supplies are covered by EPAP by calling Express Scripts at 1-855-793-7470 or by checking the list of items covered by EPAP here.
    • If a patient claims they are eligible but they have not confirmed their eligibility or registered with EPAP, pharmacists can assist by telling them to call the EPAP Hotline at 1-855-793-7470 or the pharmacist can call on their behalf if they are unable to make that call.
    • For more information, please visit ASPR's Emergency Prescription Assistance Program page.
