    Situation Overview

    On July 6, Tropical Depression Chantal moved through North Carolina, impacting Alamance, Durham, Chatham, Lee, Moore, Orange and Person counties with severe flooding. Recovery, damage assessments, and debris removal are underway after up to 10 inches of rain inundated homes, closed roadways, and prompted water rescues. 

    Key Updates

    • Power 
      • As of 2pm on July 11, according to PowerOutage.us, power has been largely restored to affected areas. 
    • Emergency Declarations
      • As of July 11, multiple local states of emergency have been declared across North Carolina; however, no federal disaster declarations have been issued at this time. 
      • Sheltering
        • As of July 11, the Red Cross emergency shelter at Smith Middle School, 9201 Seawell School Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27516, in Orange county remains open. 
      • Access and Reentry
        • Roadways
          • As of July 11, approximately 49 roads and bridges remain closed. Updates to road closures in North Carolina can be found here.
